I had always taken photos in black and white, so I thought I would challenge myself in this brief by taking them in colour. In photos, illustrations, images etc, colour combinations in my opinion can make or break an image. Therefore I wanted colour to play an important part in this project.
First I thought about observing one of London’s markets and photographing the colours and textures. However when I was walking through Chinatown, I spotted this woman with an amazing green coat that complimented the red brick buildings in the the distance. As I continued walking I noticed more complimentary colours within the signs, the shops/restaurants and the people. Lots of purples and yellows and greens and reds. I decided I would try and capture the colourful yet raw streets of Chinatown, and hopefully communicate the real character of the place.
I’m reasonably happy with my final outcome, considering I’m new to the field of photography. Despite the fact colour was my main objective, I think I could have experimented with black and white. I also think I could have taken more photos to improve the depth of my project.
